Information society

The world after 2000 has been changed by phenomena of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and globalisation, which had revolutionary effects on the world social, economic and business systems.

The emerging Information Society (IS) as a direct impact of the internet has shaped new societies, which we can see in our daily lives. The IS has created a global village where everyone is connected through the internet and sharing information. Therefore, people share information, easily influencing social, economic and even political spheres.

Sharing information brings numerous opportunities for the global system and extending the IS is absolutely essential for sustainable development. When information is shared among networks, people can have access to new experiences and this is the main part of the development engine. For instance, the global networking of universities around the world makes many opportunities for researchers and scholars to access different scientific and academic experiences, which empower societies to extend research and consequently new innovations.

There are several other advantages of the IS, such as reducing the digital gap between developing and developed countries. The IS brings developing countries to the global network and facilitates the use of different scientific and academic findings. Development in e-business and e-learning are good examples of reduction in digital gap.
